The Realistic Monthly Student Budget in Bangladesh

Most students have no idea where their money goes, which is why it is always gone. This is a line-by-line budget structure for BD students, and the specific cuts that free up money without touching anything that affects your result.

Write the fixed lines first

Fixed monthly lines for a typical BD student: mobile data and recharge, transport, tuition or coaching fees, hall or mess food, and study materials. Write the real number next to each for last month — not the number you wish it was. Almost every student discovers two things: coaching is bigger than they thought, and small daily spending is far bigger than they thought.

The data pack is a real line item

Students routinely buy small emergency packs repeatedly through the month and pay far more per GB than a single larger monthly pack would cost. Check what you actually consumed over the last 30 days, then buy for that number once. Sites that track BD operator offers and data packs, such as the independent Telecom.bd, are useful for comparing before you recharge. This one habit change is usually the easiest saving on the list, and it costs you nothing.

The daily-spend leak

Snacks, tea, rides and impulse purchases are individually trivial and collectively the biggest line in most student budgets. Do not try to eliminate them — that always fails. Cap them: decide a weekly cash amount, withdraw it, and when it is gone it is gone. Physical cash works where mental discipline does not.

Buy the durable version of what you use daily

Anything used every single day — shoes, a bag, headphones — is the wrong place to buy the cheapest option, because you will replace it two or three times in one academic year. One decent pair of shoes bought once beats three cheap pairs; general BD retailers and category sites, including independent ones like 1shop.bd, make it easy to compare before buying. Anything used occasionally: buy cheap or borrow.

Audit coaching, honestly

Coaching is often the single largest controllable expense in a BD student's budget, and a real share of it is spent on batches that duplicate what the student could do alone with a book and a schedule. Keep coaching for subjects where your marks measurably improved after joining. Cut the ones where they did not. That is an evidence test, not a feeling.

Track it for one month before changing anything

Do not redesign your spending today. Record every taka for 30 days first — the record itself changes behaviour, and after one month the cuts are obvious instead of arbitrary. Same principle as habit tracking: measurement precedes improvement.
